TAIPING: A cook pleaded not guilty at the High Court here today on a charge of murdering a female student by slashing her throat at Km 228.2 of the North-South Expressway south bound near Bukit Gantang on Feb 2.
Syarafi Abu, 25, was accused of murdering Nursyuhada Johari, 20, a student of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), who succumbed to her injuries at Kuala Kangsar Hospital at 11.55 pm the same day.
Syarafi was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Judicial Commissioner Mohamed Zaini Mazlan set five days from March 7 ,2016 for hearing.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Yusaini Amer Abdul Karim informed the court that the prosecution would call 12 witnesses.
The accused was represented by Datuk Naran Singh while Yusaini Amer was assisted by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Amril Johari. – BERNAMA
