SEPANGGAR: About 60 young participants are competing in the yacht sailing competition of the 5th Navy Regatta Open.
The participants who are from five different sailing clubs will be competing in three contested categories, which are Optimist, Int 470, and Laser in the event starting from 3 April until 5 April.
The three-day competition are participated by Sabah Sailing Association (Saila), TLDM Sailing Association, Kinabalu Yacht Club, Sandakan Yacht Club and Navy Yacht Club.
Meanwhile, the President of Saila, Christopher Chin Soo Yin, said the event is organized as a way to hone new talents in water sports activities, as well as to attract more fans from the public.
“The competition is also a sign of support for the government’s effort in developing sports-sailing in the state,” he said when met by reporters at launching of the event at TLDM Sailing Association Building.
The launching ceremony was officiated by the state Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.
Christopher said, the water sports tournament will also improve the cooperation between TLDM, state government, and sailing associations regarding on water sports development.
Other activities were also held for the visitors to join, such as children coloring contest, karaoke, fishing, Dragon Boat race, and archery, he added. - SayangSabah
