JOHOR BAHARU: A total of 2,932 families from eight villages affected by the implementation of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) today received the key to their home under the People’s Housing Project (PPR).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the federal government had allocated RM303 million under the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP) and the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) for the resettlement programme.
“The resettlement programme began in 1998 after the state government granted the land to the developer in exchange for shares in the developing firm,” he told reporters after the opening of the Hire Purchase Scheme and handing over of keys to the owners of the PPR homes here today.
He said the allocation included RM203 million in the form of grants, while the remaining was given as loan to the state government.
He said the allocation was for the construction of 2,720 units of low cost apartments.- BERNAMA
