KOTA KINABALU: The consumers can lodge their complaint at the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism office if there are traders taking advantage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The can lodge the report at the Ministry’s hotline at 180086800 or through email.
Besides that, consumers are also encouraged to download the MyKira apps unto their mobile phones to enable them to pre-calculate the prices of goods because if the price is correct a thumbs up sign will appear and a thumbs down for over profiteering, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek.
He explained when consumers received the thumbs down they can immediately lodge a complaint to the Anti-Profiteering Movement Centre in the Ministry to enable them to carry out investigation.
He said action could be taken on the spot for failing to display price tag or measurement not properly calibrated whilst for over profiteering, it will take 30 days as it involved a thorough investigation.
“I have met three-four consumers who have no qualms over the implementation of the GST, so I see there is nothing to worry about because we are introducing an efficient, effective and transparent tax system,” Hasan said.-Sayangsabah
