1,000 athletes expected to join 14th GEMAPUTERA Sports Tournament

KOTA KINABALU: More than a thousand athletes including the state economy bodies (PKEN) team officers nationwide are expected to join the Gemaputera Sports Tournament that will be held on 23 to 26 March.

The sports event which was introduced in 1985 is organized by Combined Public Enterprises and Bumiputera Trusts Agency (GEMAPUTERA) where its members are consisting of PKEN organizations in the country.

Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd Chairperson, Datuk Hj. Samsudin Yahya, said the sports programme for PKEN organizations in the national level is held once for every two years as a platform to strengthen ties and cooperation.

“I am informed that Sabah through the Sedco Group has held the sports programme in 2002 and once more for this year Sabah via the same organization has been given the trust to host the game,” he said during his speech for the 14th GEMAPUTERA dinner event to raise fund for the sports tournament, at Magellan Sutera Harbour Kota Kinabalu, yesterday.

Datuk Samsudin also presented the collected fund of RM230,000 by giving a symbolic cheque replica to Sedco General Manager, Tuan Hj. Pengiran Saifuddin Pengiran Tahir.

The event also held performance by singer Esther Applunius, D’Karnival Jazz Band, and Elizabeth Tan. –SayangSabah
